Introduction This Statement describes the facilities and procedures employed at Ceramica.
Accessibility to the Town Hall The main building is in The Old Town Hall and houses the main attraction. Adjacent to The Old Town Hall we have a small car park, surfaced with tarmac with three spaces allocated to disabled drivers with wide parking spaces and low pavement on either side of the spaces. The main entrance is approximately 25 meters from the parking bays. The main entrance has ramps on two sides and steps on the third. The main entrance has a double door arrangement both of which have long, low door handles that can be opened by anyone of any height and both doors can be opened to allow for wheelchair access.
Accessibility within the Town Hall Lift access is available to all floors of the building including the basement level when we have special events. However a member of staff will need to accompany visitors going to the basement via the lift. The lift has floor number in Braille allowing a partially sighted visitor to find the right floor easier and the lift has a voice floor announcer that tells the person in the lift which floor they are going past or stopping on. All interactive exhibits are laid out as such a wheelchair can easily get around and use the interactive displays. Most displays offer hands on and visual interaction for hearing impaired visitors and audio presentations for the visually impaired. We also offer transcripts of all Audio/Visual exhibits for the hearing impaired and a large print version for partial sighted visitors. Most of the exhibits will start automatically when you enter an area. There is seating positioned at various locations across all floors for visitors requiring a rest when walking around the building. The main toilet in the Town Hall is on the ground floor and is suitable for disabled visitors. Ceramica does not currently offer a wheelchair of our own to visitors.
Emergency Actions in the Town Hall In the event of an emergency an announcement is played over the internal public address system and flashing beacons indicate a fire emergency. From the ground floor the main exits are at the front and at the back of the building. There are four emergency exits from the town hall however only two are suitable for wheelchairs these include the main entrance at the front and the centre rear exit. As the other doors have steps on both the inside and outside. During a fire emergency the lift must NOT be used. The staff have a duty to ensure everyone is evacuated in the event of fire and will assist visitors that cannot walk down the stairs. Emergency lights are fitted all over the building and illuminate within three seconds of the power failing. In the event of power failure everyone must leave the building via the main entrance for safety, staff will assist with the evacuation.
General Information Animals are not permitted in the Town Hall or during business hours except for service animals, which are welcome.
Public Transport provision is excellent to Ceramica with Bus Stops on all surrounding roadways and the furthest bus stop is five minutes away. Our local bus service also offer special low buses for wheelchair access.
Ceramica is striving to improve facilities for all users of the premises and its services over the next few years. Although not perfect our aim is to provide services that will work for all. If you find on your visit a problem with any of the information here then please speak to one of our visitor service assistants and we will do our best to improve your visit.
